The academic calendar shows the deadlines and scheduled events that are relevant to students, teaching and technical-administrative staff of the University. Public holidays and University closures are also indicated. The academic year normally begins on 1 October each year and ends on 30 September of the following year.

Learning objectives

The course provides students with knowledge, understanding and skills related to the role of ergonomics in prevention, protection, promotion and management of workplace health and safety with a particular focus on psychosocial risk factors.
The student will acquire knowledge and understanding on the principles of occupational medicine, risk assessment, health surveillance, fitness for job, specific legislation, health education, primary, secondary and tertiary prevention, with reference to the role of ergonomic and psychosocial risk factors in a multidisciplinary perspective


1- Ergonomics: definition and historical, normative notes
2- Physical Ergonomics:
• musculoskeletal disorders (epidemiology, spine, upper limbs and lower limbs disorders)
• biomechanical overload (instruments, general notes, examples)
• preventive interventions (examples)
• return to work
3- Ergonomics and video terminals:
• Specific legislation
• Effects (visual and musculoskeletal system)
• visual commitment, ergonomic parameters of the workstations
• Preventive interventions
4- Psychosocial Risks
• Definitions and legislation
• Effects on health
• Risk assessment
• Prevention

Didactic methods

Lectures with the support of teaching materials specially prepared for the course and provided in copy to learners, specific bibliographical references for individual study.

Questionnaire consisting of 10 short open-ended questions. Questionnaire consisting of 10 short open-ended questions. The questions probe knowledge of the topics covered, at least 1 question for each general topic covered in class

each question is scored from 0 to 3.
Score 0 question not completed or completely wrong answer
Score 1 insufficient answer
Score 2 more than sufficient answer
Score 3 complete and exhaustive answer
Score increases by 0.5, a minimum score of 18/30 is required to pass the module examination
