The academic calendar shows the deadlines and scheduled events that are relevant to students, teaching and technical-administrative staff of the University. Public holidays and University closures are also indicated. The academic year normally begins on 1 October each year and ends on 30 September of the following year.

Learning outcomes

Negli ultimi anni i modelli matematici svillupati per le discipline
scientifiche sono diventati sempre più complessi e l'analisi numerica
svolge un importante ruolo nell'ambito del calcolo scientifico. Nel corso l'attenzione sarà focalizzata allo studio dei metodi numerici per le equazioni differenziali ordinarie e alle derivate parziali.
Per introdurre le idee fondamentali e la teoria matematica necessaria per lo sviluppo e l'analisi di tali metodi, saranno presentate le principali tecniche classiche, senza trascurare però
le tecniche di uso più recente.

Il corso si svolgerà mediante lezioni teoriche in aula,
e saranno proposti anche dei seminari di approfondimento su temi di ricerca moderni. Inoltre si chiede agli studenti di implementare i metodi numerici studiati.

Come linguaggio per le implementazioni si consiglia Matlab (linguaggio già noto e introdotto in altri corsi), ma si lascia spazio agli studenti per l'utilizzo di strumenti diversi (scilab, octave o linguaggi compilati).

Program

- Soluzione di sistemi lineari (tridiagonali e sparsi) con metodi iterativi. Metodo del gradiente coniugato e suo pre-condizionamento.

- Generalità sulle equazioni alle differenze.

- Equazioni differenziali ordinarie
(i) Metodi numerici per problemi a valori iniziali. Metodi ad un
passo e a passi multipli. Problemi Stiff. Stabilita'.
(ii) Problemi con valori ai limiti: metodi alle differenze finite,
di collocazione e shooting.

- Equazioni differenziali alle derivate parziali: generalità e studio
delle equazioni alle derivate parziali classiche (Laplace, calore e
onde). Metodi alle differenze finite. Metodi agli elementi finiti.

- Cenni ai metodi spettrali.

Examination Methods

Per il superamento dell'esame sono richiesti

- l'approffondimento da parte dello studente, di un argomento assegnato dal docente di cui sarà richiesta anche la presentazione di un piccolo elaborato scritto;

- un esame scritto conclusivo che verterà sia su argomenti di teoria
che sulla soluzione di 1 o più semplici esercizi.
