Academic calendar
The academic calendar shows the deadlines and scheduled events that are relevant to students, teaching and technical-administrative staff of the University. Public holidays and University closures are also indicated. The academic year normally begins on 1 October each year and ends on 30 September of the following year.

TAF (Type of Educational Activity) All courses and activities are classified into different types of educational activities, indicated by a letter.
Type D and Type F activities
Le attività formative di tipologia D sono a scelta dello studente, quelle di tipologia F sono ulteriori conoscenze utili all’inserimento nel mondo del lavoro (tirocini, competenze trasversali, project works, ecc.). In base al Regolamento Didattico del Corso, alcune attività possono essere scelte e inserite autonomamente a libretto, altre devono essere approvate da apposita commissione per verificarne la coerenza con il piano di studio. Le attività formative di tipologia D o F possono essere ricoperte dalle seguenti attività.
1. Insegnamenti impartiti presso l'Università di Verona
Comprendono gli insegnamenti sotto riportati e/o nel Catalogo degli insegnamenti (che può essere filtrato anche per lingua di erogazione tramite la Ricerca avanzata).
Modalità di inserimento a libretto: se l'insegnamento è compreso tra quelli sottoelencati, lo studente può inserirlo autonomamente durante il periodo in cui il piano di studi è aperto; in caso contrario, lo studente deve fare richiesta alla Segreteria, inviando a carriere.scienze@ateneo.univr.it il modulo nel periodo indicato.
2. Attestato o equipollenza linguistica CLA
Oltre a quelle richieste dal piano di studi, per gli immatricolati dall'A.A. 2021/2022 vengono riconosciute:
- Lingua inglese: vengono riconosciuti 3 CFU per ogni livello di competenza superiore a quello richiesto dal corso di studio (se non già riconosciuto nel ciclo di studi precedente).
- Altre lingue e italiano per stranieri: vengono riconosciuti 3 CFU per ogni livello di competenza a partire da A2 (se non già riconosciuto nel ciclo di studi precedente).
Tali cfu saranno riconosciuti, fino ad un massimo di 6 cfu complessivi, di tipologia F se il piano didattico lo consente, oppure di tipologia D. Ulteriori crediti a scelta per conoscenze linguistiche potranno essere riconosciuti solo se coerenti con il progetto formativo dello studente e se adeguatamente motivati.

Modalità di inserimento a libretto: non è previsto l'inserimento dell'insegnamento nel piano di studi. Solo in seguito all'ottenimento dell'Open Badge verranno automaticamente convalidati i CFU a libretto. La registrazione dei CFU in carriera non è istantanea, ma ci saranno da attendere dei tempi tecnici.

Learning objectives
Do you like problems and puzzles with a math-algorithmic flavour?
Are you interested to participate to competitions and challanges in problem solving and programming?
In this year's edition, the "Programming Challenges" course offers you a space to train to take part in competitive programming events.
The course provides and reinforces the theoretical, practical and attitudinal bases and offers a meeting point to meet other students with these interests, organize teams, or venture into common projects. At the end of the course the student will be more aware and mature not only in his particular interests and abilities but also in relating to others by interacting actively and proactively in the context of study and work.
The course can be taken by students of any degree course in the Department of Computer Science. It is worth 6 type D credits (Activities of the student's choice).
Prerequisites and basic notions
Interest in problem solving and computational thinking. Rudimentary knowledge of at least one programming language with a minimum of practical experience in its use.
Program
The course covers the knowledge and techniques of competitive programming.
Competitive programming (or competitive programming) is a discipline where the participants
they try to create a program that solves some given algorithmic problem.
Among the most important competitions in this field are:
International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI): An individual competition at the high school level
International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC): a university-level square competition
Google Code Jam: a competition organized by Google for everyone, also used for recruitment purposes
The topics of this course, in addition to being useful for participation in this type of competitions,
they are the ones that are also found in interviews conducted by large IT companies, such as
Google, Meta and Microsoft, to evaluate a candidate's problem-solving ability.

Bibliography
Didactic methods
The meetings take place in Ca Vignal and comprise the exposition of a piece of theory or of a technique, the proposal of one or more problems, and the practical part where you are required to produce an effective code that solves the assigned problem efficiently. Unless we will be assigned a laboratory, for this last part you are expected to bring your own laptop or to team up with a classmate. You can also conduct this last part as an homework, in fact it is expected you anyhow put in this kind of investment to prepare to the exam or to participate in competitions.
Learning assessment procedures
The exam can be taken, at the student's choice, in one of the following ways:
- Laboratory test
- Project agreed with the teacher
- Be selected in the university team for the SWERC 2022-2023 and finish in the top 50% of the ranking
Evaluation criteria
Strict but fair and reasonable.
Criteria for the composition of the final grade
As agreed with the students before the activities that generate the grade.
Exam language
English is fine. Italiano va benissimo.
