Program
The course deals with issues related to the study of the landscape in archeology. It is structured in some thematic subsections that will allow to develop general aspects (which will concern both theoretical approaches to the study of landscape in archeology), as well as case studies and applications, providing a framework of the scientific debate on the topic.
1) The archeology of landscapes: theory and methods
2) Central landscapes, marginal landscapes: the contribution of archaeological research from the protohistoric to the medieval age
3) The study of the landscape and environmental archeology
4) Preventive archeology
5) IT tools for landscape study

Lectures and seminars. Educational outings may be provided.
The course includes a practical laboratory exercise on the use of cartographic tools, GIS and the use of aerial images.
Learning assessment procedures
The exam includes an oral interview.
Evaluation criteria
During the exam the student's degree of learning of the topics covered, the critical ability to make their own and re-elaborate the aforementioned topics and the property of language in presenting the contents will be assessed.
Criteria for the composition of the final grade
The first part of the interview, in which the student presents an in-depth study of his/her choice, will be evaluated 15/30; the questions in the second part will be evaluated 15/30. Actual participation in the proposed workshops and visits, if the student is attending, and the ability to reason about them, will be a significantly positive element for the assessment.
