Academic calendar
The academic calendar shows the deadlines and scheduled events that are relevant to students, teaching and technical-administrative staff of the University. Public holidays and University closures are also indicated. The academic year normally begins on 1 October each year and ends on 30 September of the following year.

Learning outcomes
Module: I MODULO PARTE (I)

Educational goals: knowledge of the civilization stages, geographical environment and main historical events of the ancient Near East, knowledge of the main historical sources concerning the periods treated and of the methods for their analysis; knowledge of the main and recent approaches to the study of the ancient Near East and of the main bibliographical tools.
Module: II MODULO PARTE (P)

The second part of the course (p) is aimed at an in-depth study of specific sectors of the history of the ancient Near East and relevant sources, at providing the knowledge of the specific bibliography, analytical tools framed in an integrated approach combining historical, philological and archaeological data and methods.

Module: I MODULO PARTE (I)

The course (i+p) is aimed at providing a comprehensive view of the history of the ancient Near East from prehistory to first millennium BC. The first part (course i) is general in character and considers the major historical peridizations of Syro-Mesopotamian history, from the beginning of urban civilization to the Late Babylonian period.
Methods: lectures, guided analysis of documents. Attendance is recommended; students who can not attend classes are kindly requested to contact the teacher.
Module: II MODULO PARTE (P)

The second part (course p) will be devoted to illustrating the Mesopotamian literary tradition in its historical contexts, with particular concern for the first millennium BC and the analysis of selected examples of mythological, devotional, lyric, scholastic texts and of the milieus of their production, study, filing, fruition, highlighting the scribal culture charateristics, the relationships between scholars and ruling class, court and religious centres, and with the previous literary tradition, its re-interpretation and innovations.
Methods: lectures, guided analysis of documents. Attendance is recommended; students who can not attend classes are kindly requested to contact the teacher.
