Learning objectives

The course leads the students to learn the basic features of the literary and cultural history of Russia. At the end of the course, students will be able to: 1) know the most relevant events and the main peculiarities of the Russian history, as well as the essential elements of Modern Russian literature with particular reference to the 19th century; 2) apply the acquired knowledge to the analysis of the literary works presented during the classes, with the help of the provided critical references; 3) have the ability to formulate autonomous judgments about the main themes of the course, and to explain them correctly and coherently.

Prerequisites and basic notions

This exam cannot be taken before having passed Saperi Minimi.

1) A Short Introduction to Russian History;
2) Nineteenth-century Russian literary classics through the eyes of Vladimir Nabokov.

Programme and bibliography are the same for both attending and non-attending students.
Erasmus students are invited to contact the teacher at the beginning of the courses.
Tutoring activities for both attending and non-attending students will be scheduled during the course (see Moodle webpage).

Specific support and tutoring activities are available for inclusion and accessibility, with particular regard to the Language and Literature courses in the French, English, Russian, Spanish and German areas. The activities will take place from November 2022 to June 2023. More information will be available on the Department's webpage.

Learning assessment procedures

Final evaluation: oral exam.

Evaluation criteria

The assessment will consider the following criteria:
- Content accuracy and completeness
- Achievement of adequate analysis abilities
- Clarity in the exposition, arguing ability, and knowledge of the subject-specific lexicon.
The final mark is out of 30.
