Academic calendar
The academic calendar shows the deadlines and scheduled events that are relevant to students, teaching and technical-administrative staff of the University. Public holidays and University closures are also indicated. The academic year normally begins on 1 October each year and ends on 30 September of the following year.

Program
This course will consists in two parts:
(i) Formal properties of the semiotic processes, based on the results of the scientific investigation of mind, consciousness, language and communication in cognitive neuroscience and human sciences;
(ii) An analysis of the issues around the free will in some literary texts (Flaubert and Proust), based on the application of some textual semiotics techniques
Bibliography
Didactic methods
Part (i) will be based on frontal teaching and seminar discussions. Part (ii) will involve the presentation of some 'case studies' in which the participants will be directly involved in terms of systematic student/teacher interaction methods
Learning assessment procedures
The exam will have an oral form
Evaluation criteria
The evaluation will be based on the answer to questions intended to check whether the participants show an adequate comprehension of the notions and of the methods of analysis discussed during the course, as well as adequate skills in applying the main techniques of semiotic analysis in the interpretation of written texts and fragments of communication.
