Learning objectives
Philosophy of Education The course aims to develop the following skills:
- conceptual skills (content knowledge): knowledge of the cultural bases of the philosophy of education; knowledge of main educational theories; knowledge of the implications in terms of educational policies of the different theories;
- Procedural skills (methodological knowledge): ability to develop models of reasoning for the construction of theoretical discourses on education; ability to develop critical analysis of educational theories.

2. The concepts of education, instruction and training
3. Historical evolution of thinking on education
4. Democracy and education: J. Dewey
5. Education as a process of liberation: P. Freire
6. Education as integral formation of the person: A. Gramsci
7. Phenomenological thought and education: Husserl, Harendt, Levinas
8. Philosophy of care and education: Heidegger, Stein, Mortari
9. Philosophy of education and educational professions
10. Educational policy and politics: from the Italian Constitution to Delegated Decrees and European policies
11. Education, old and new media, and the impact of Artificial Intelligence
12. Towards a new social contract for education

Didactic methods
The course is based on interactive and participative teaching. In particular, in the various lessons the concepts will be explored in depth by means of dialogical frontal lessons, also including readings/viewings of texts, case studies and films/documentaries as starting points for a reciprocal maieutic process or specific analyses on the basis of the students' choices. The discussions conducted in class will constitute collective material that will also be made available to non-attending students via the online environment. Individual or small group study will be encouraged, which may conclude with presentations and discussion during the lessons, in addition to the delivery of the relative paper.
Learning assessment procedures
For non-attending students, the exam will be written and will cover all the texts in the program, for which analytical study is required.
For attending students, exam modalities will be defined during the course.
Evaluation criteria
The exam tests the in-depth understanding of concepts and the ability to critically rework contents.
Criteria for the composition of the final grade
The grade will be in thirtieths.
