Speicif Objectives.

The course aims to provide the conceptual and methodological basis for acquiring the professional skills necessary for future social workers to interpret and implement community interventions.

The course also aims to stimulate a critical reflection on the role that the social work could exercise towards immigrants and to some highly stigmatized minority groups, such as Roma and Sinti, always with a view to community action.

In general, there are two objectives of teaching:

1. acquire a "political" vision of social work intervention, considering the community as a subject to be mobilized also in defense of the social rights of citizens and, in particular, of those belonging to the weakest political groups and politically and economically;

2. acquire knowledge and tools on community analysis, on the involvement of the community in actions to protect the health of citizens, including through the mobilization of associations, committees and groups.

Program

The program of the course is centered on the deepening of the following points:

1. Historical origins and theoretical foundations of social community work;

2. The dimensions of community social work:
2a. the "operational" dimension (breakdown and preventive) - community work as a tool for problem solving -
2b. the "political" dimension - community work as an instrument for defending social rights and changing political relations;

3. The analysis and mobilization of the community:
3a. mapping of community resources;
3b. group work as a tool for mobilizing community resources.
3c. work with the family.

4. Community work in some particular operational areas:
4a. Community approaches in addictions and alcoholism;

5. Social Work in Third Sector.

Examination Methods

The assessment of learning outcomes will be:

- a preliminary written assessment of the acquired knowledge and an integrative oral test to deepen the contents of the written test and to evaluate other parts of the study program.

The written test is aimed at ascertaining the knowledge of the topics in the program and the ability to critically read the role of the social service in the promotion of community resources.

Contents and methods for conducting the assessment tests

The questions of the written test can cover all the topics covered in the course. Three open questions will be asked concerning both the exam text and the articles indicated in the bibliography, as well as the contents of the material provided by the teacher during the course.

Each of the 3 questions will be assigned a score ranging from 0 to 10 points, for a total of 30 / 30ths in case of answers all correct.

ERASMUS students are asked to contact the teacher at the beginning of the courses to agree together the teaching methods and the assessment tests.

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE
