L-LIN/21 - SLAVIC STUDIES
Period
Learning objectives
At the end of the course, students will be able to: - describe the grammatical phenomena of the Russian language by using an adequate linguistic terminology, both in Italian and in Russian; - apply formal linguistic concepts to the different levels of analysis of the Russian language; - think critically on linguistic issues related to the acquisition and teaching of Russian as a Foreign Language.
Prerequisites and basic notions
Given the technical nature of the topics covered in the course, it is preferable to have a basic familiarity with the fundamental concepts of general theoretical linguistics and, specifically, with the specialized terminology adopted in formal and functional approaches to linguistic data.
Previous knowledge of Russian is not a mandatory prerequisite for attending the course.
Program
The course is divided into four thematic modules of about 9 hours each: 1) Interaction between event semantics, argument structure and verbal aspect: on the terminological distinction between vnutrennjaja predel'nost' (≈ telicity) and vnešnjaja predel'nost' (≈ boundedness); 2) The pragmatics of verbal aspect: perfective vs. imperfective in the imperative mood and in explicit performative verbs; 3) Syntactic mechanisms of subject demotion in dative dispositional constructions (e.g., Mne chorošo rabotaetsja) and in instrumental elemental impersonals (e.g., Kryšu sorvalo vetrom); 4) Across-the-board agreement and dative (ex. Maša ugovorila Vanju prigotovit' obed odnomu) and instrumental secondary predications (ex. Ivan prišel domoj p'janym).
In each module the hours allocated to collective exercises are counted to strengthen the skills acquired during the frontal lessons.
Bibliography
Didactic methods
The course is articulated into a series of frontal classes.
Unless the epidemiological situation worsens, there will be no video recording of the lessons; attendance, even if not mandatory, is therefore strongly recommended.
The course is taught in English and Russian.
Learning assessment procedures
The exam consists of two parts: 1) A written test (ca. 150' -2h30min), consisting of five exercises (aimed at evaluating the grammatical skills acquired by students at the end of the course) and an open question of theoretical nature (aimed at evaluating the acquisition of an appropriate linguistic terminology); 2) An oral interview (ca. 15'), aimed at verifying logical argumentation skills (through the guided correction of the written test), reading skills and passive comprehension of a medium-length non-specialist text (i.e., a newspaper article of about 10-15 lines which must be agreed upon in advance with the lecturer).
Evaluation criteria
The oral interview can only be taken after passing the written test (with a mark of no less than 18/30). The final mark is the arithmetic mean of the marks received in the two tests.

Type D and Type F activities
CFU D (attività a scelta dello studente)
- competenze linguistiche (diverse o ulteriori) rispetto a quelle obbligatorie
- tirocini o stage
- TALC (competenze trasversali).
Competenze trasversali TALC
