Learning objectives
The Biophysics course aims to disclose all the applications of physics for the study and the interpretation of biological phenomena. As a matter of fact, physics is substantially crucial for the study of molecules, proteins, cellular structures. From spectroscopy to microscopy, essential tools in both biology and medicine, applied-experimental physics is part of the knowledge of a biotechnological scientist. In this course, therefore, we intend to give students all the tools for an interpretation of biological phenomena also from a physical point of view, in an understandable and usable way, thus allowing them to have a more complete vision. All the basic knowledge will be given to have a good command of the most interesting physical analysis methodologies for the characterization of biological systems, including (but not limited to) spectroscopy and microscopy (from electron microscopy to IR spectroscopy, from dichroism to Raman, from confocal microscopy to time-resolved fluorescence and so on).

Attendance
As stated in the Teaching Regulations for the A.Y. 2022/2023, attendance is not mandatory. However, professors may require students to attend lectures for a minimum of hours in order to be able to take the module exam, in which case the methods that will be used to check attendance will be explained at the beginning of the module.
