Learning outcomes

To gain an in-depth knowledge of the italian and european literature between nineteenth-twentieth century. Students are required to use correctly the Italian language, its grammar and syntax, as well as all those rhetorical and stylistic skills which are essential for a close reading of any literary text.

Program

Fleurs du mal: eros,disease and death in the literature between nineteenth-twentieth century.

Required texts:Oscar Wilde, Il ritratto di Dorian Gray (1890-91) e Salomè (1893); Gabriele D’Annunzio, L’innocente (1892) e Il trionfo della morte (1894); Italo Svevo, Senilità (1898); Robert Musil, I turbamenti del giovane Törless (1906); Sergio Corazzini, Corrado Govoni, Marino Moretti, Guido Gozzano(a selection of poems); Thomas Mann, La morte a Venezia (1913).

Examination Methods
