Learning outcomes

The course aims to provide students with an understanding of the major psychosocial processes, methods, and theorizing in social psychology. By examining community psychology interventions at multiple levels of analysis, the course will also provide students with skills useful in coping with community problems. Students will develop intellectual skills, such as critical reflection, analysis and interpretation of psychosocial phenomena, as well as practical skills, such as critical analysis of a community problem, design and implementation of intervention plans.

The course covers the following topics:
- psychosocial research methods,
- social cognition and perception,
- social categorization and stereotypes,
- self, personal and social identity,
- attitudes and persuasion,
- aggression and prosocial behavior,
- social influence in groups,
- leadership and decision making in groups,
- intergroup conflict, prejudice, and discrimination
- design and evaluation of community psychology interventions
- intervention strategies: mentoring, photovoice, and peer education
- social networks and community networks
