Learning outcomes

The course presents the main methodological approaches and the main techniques suitable to investigate the psychological functions related to motor performance. I will present the methods to record reaction times recording and to assess sensory acuity. In addition, special emphasis will be given to the techniques that allow to investigate the brain functioning during the performance of cognitive-motor tasks, such as EEG, TMS and fMRI. In addition, the course will provide the basic elements to acquire methodological skills useful to carry on scientific research.

Program

The course will cover the following topics:
1. Behavioral research methods: Reaction times and psychophysics.
2 Methods of investigation of the motor system: Transcranic magnetic stimulation applied to sport.
3 Methods of brain imaging: Electroencephalography (EEG) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) applied to sport.
4 Methodological approach: Experimental research designs, the concept of variable, elements of statistics.
5. Hands-on: the students will prepare and present a research project.
