Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to offer an overview of some of the most important aspects of the Spanish cultural and literary history. In particular the concept of “identity” will be discussed starting from the myth of the Three Cultures of Medieval Spain (Muslims, Jews and Christians), a myth that has continued living until now and that originated a large number of cases related to cultural economy and the tourism economic system.
The main element that will be analised during the course is that one related to the history of Sepharad; in order to do so, the literature regarding this main topic will be studied (i.e. the expulsion of Jews from Spain in 1492, diaspora literature, narratives of exile, historic novel, etc.); the learning of some basic tools of literary critical analysis will enable an adequate development of the analytical skills; furthermore, the historical and sociological content will ensure the right approach to some issues related to cultural commerce and tourism.
The module will be taught in Spanish.
