Learning outcomes

The course is a first introduction to numerical analysis. In particular we expect that at the end of the course the student is able to:

- decide which method is more appropriate for the solution of certain problems;
- evaluate the cost and efficiency of some algorithms and methods;
- code in MATLAB/OCTAVE the algorithms and methods studied.

Program

Error analysis and algorithmic efficiency.
Solution of equations.
Linear systems
Eigenvalues and eigenvectors.
Interpolation and approximation.
Numerical integration.

Examination Methods

The exam consists of a written part and the development of a project, which will be discussed individually.
Who doesn't have a project assigned has to contact me.

The oral exam is not mandatory for the final grade, but it allows an increment (or reduction) of the grade.
The oral exam is mandatory for the Laude.

Written part: exercises and methods (80%).
Project: project and discussion (20%).
Oral: methods, theorems and proofs.
