Learning outcomes
To acquire general knowledge about the research methods applied to sports and physical activity in
to be able to evaluate the accuracy of the methodology used in the published investigation
and gain the ability to independently develop experimental designs.
Program
The course will present some of the main process involved in scientific research, will special focus to those atteined for research in sport and physical activity:
The scientific method
Process of analysis and retrieval of scientific literature
Basics of applied statistics
Identification and validity of independent and dependent variables
Non-experimental designs
Quasi-experimental designs
Experimental designs (DOE theory, Design of Experiment)
Quality of reporting (CONSORT, STROBE, PRISMA, etc.) and meta-analysis
Etics in the scientific sìresearch, the etical committee

Examination Methods
The exam will focus on the preparation of a short essay of some pages containing the description of a hypothetical experimental protocol. The oral exam will be dedicated to its discussion with a view to the theoretical elements seen during the theory lessons
