L-LIN/14 - LANGUAGE AND TRANSLATION - GERMAN

Period

Semester 1  dal Oct 2, 2017 al Jan 20, 2018.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- apply the basic concepts of grammar to the syntactic system of German
- analyze German sentences in the terms of "Felderanalyse";
- recognize the relevance of a theoretical framework for data analysis and interpretation;

On completion of this course, students' German language skills correspond to the B1 level of the CEFR.

Program

"The structure of the German sentence. Introduction to syntactic analysis"

This course introduces the basic concepts of syntactic analysis (analysis of syntactic constituents, parts of speech, syntactic functions and grammatical relations), with particular reference to the notion of topological fields ("Felderanalyse"), an approach specific to the tradition of German syntactic description.

Text book:
Tomaselli, Alessandra (2013): Introduzione alla sintassi del tedesco. Verona: QuiEdit.

Selected parts from:
- Wöllstein, Angelika (2010): Topologisches Satzmodell. Heidelberg: Universitätsverlag Winter. [BF 170 C 174]
- Wöllstein-Leisten, Angelika et al. (1997): Deutsche Satzstruktur. Grundlagen der syntaktischen Analyse. Tübingen: Narr [BF 170 C 157]

This course is taught in Italian.

Examination Methods

Final exams throughout the year are written. Students can chose whether they want to take the exam in Italian or in German. The exam consists in an application of the theoretical concepts acquired during the course to the syntactic structures of German (e.g. analysis in terms of 'Felderanalyse' of simple and complex sentences, identification of ungrammatical structures, determination of grammatical functions etc.). The exam can be taken only after completion of the B1 level of language competence. The final grade will be calculated as the mean score of the grade of the exam and the grade obtained for the B1 certificate.

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE
