MM: CHIRURGIA PEDIATRICA GENERALE

The aim of this course is to improve the knowledge of some congenital malformations in pediatric patients, from prenatal diagnosis to surgical treatment. The topics of the course will cover the malformations of the gastrointestinal, genito-urinary and respiratory tract.

MM: MEDICINA PRENATALE E NEONATOLOGIA

The Course will offer to the students a theoretical and practical knowledge in term of the Care of newborn with diseases, in particular with Endocrine Disorders - Metabolic Disorders - Cromosomic Aberrations. Another important item of the course will be to offer a capability to inform the mothers of vaccinations. The Course will offer practical informations on Resuscitation.

The course is proposed to provide cultural bases in order to promote, protect and sustain breastfeeding Students can learn to apply the knowledges of the physiology of lactation, in order to sustain the start and the maintenance of breastfeeding, and they will be able to describe special situation (about the mother and the baby) that can have an impact on breastfeeding. The contents of this course are connected with "obstetric care at childbirth and puerperium" (to understand how obstetric practices during the labor can influence the possibility to breastfeed) This course allows students to experiment with "information to the woman during pregnancy" and "support for the woman that breastfeed", with a group clinical practice

The targets of this course are to know: - the main neonata diseases involving the respiratory tract, the cardiocircolatori system, metabolism, central neural system, skeletal apparatus, infections, and ematologica diseases; - notes of differential diagnosis of the main diseases of the newborn; - notes of therapy of the main diseases of the newborn; - maternal and labor risk factors of neonatal pathology; - the premature infant; - the small for gestational age, the low birth weight, and the large for gestational age; - the newborn from a diabetic mother.

The Course of “Prenatal Medicine and Neonatology” will offer an overview on Prenatal Medicine going from preterm newborn to healthy neonate. In particular we will discuss the major problems/diseases of preterm newborn looking at auxology – signs – symptoms. We will offer to the students an approach of Prenatal Medicine keeping the obstetrics virtually into Neonatal Intensive Unit Care. We will discuss also the vaccines and vaccinations, the chromosomes disorders and metabolic diseases.

The quality of obstetric cares physiology of breastfeeding: anatomy of the breast, endocrinological aspects benefits of breastfeeding for the baby, mother and society; risks connected with the assunction of artificial milk, promotion of breastfeeding during the pregnancy practices that encourage breastfeeding: born (friendly treatments and skin to skin) and in the hospital (rooming in and bed sharing, breastfeeding when asked, non - integration, no use of aids, etc) to help and to protect the relationship between mother and baby: describe the importance of the impact of a strict relationship between mother and baby, focusing on their health and welfare to protect breastfeeding (tools and normative) to help the mother breastfeeding examination of the feeding: sings of a correct attachment and assunction of milk Assunction of milk: growth assessment Creation of bonding and relationship between mother and baby Duration of breastfeeding, prolonged breastfeeding, tandem feeding and complementary feeding Handling challenges that could arise during breastfeeding: babies with a difficult attachment and babies with special needs. describing particular situation that can have an impact on breastfeeding and on lactation, sustaining mothers getting over these difficulties possible complications during breastfeeding for the mother and the baby: pain in the nipples, breast congestion, mastitis, candida, insufficent production of milk breastfeeding sustainment after hospital discharge: community friend, professional networks and not.
