Providing competences about structural and linguistic analysis of journalistic texts of different origin and destination, as a prerequisite for a professional use of journalistic language.

The course aims to introduce the student to the study of modern and contemporary Italian literature, with particular attention to the experience of writers who, during the twentieth century, have engaged in the journalistic or editorial field. Through the study of an exemplary reality, the student, at the end of the course, will have to demonstrate knowledge of the relationships that bind literature, publishing and journalism, as well as being able to read and analyze texts of various kinds, critically situating them in the history of Italian literature .

Prerequisites: notions about the particular characteristics of the Italian language, its history, its joints in the contemporary world, its uses in the world of communication. Contents of the course: characters, components and trends of journalistic language in Italy, with analysis of journalistic texts.

Of Cesare Pavese, three different aspects will be studied. The first, the poet's role in breaking with tradition, through the collection «Lavorare stanca» (1936-1943). The second, intense relationship with Einaudi Publishing House that saw him as editor, editorial director, necklace director, voice in the choir of «Wednesday», publisher of himself, as well as author and translator and curator in his own also in the history of Italian publishing. The third, narrator experience in the 1930s and 1940s with the publication of «Prima che il gallo canti» («Il carcere», 1938-1939 and «La casa in collina», 1947-1948), attempted reconciliation between myth and history. Nuovi studi su Cesare Pavese», Alessandria, Edizioni dell'Orso, 2013, pp. 1-47 and pp. 81-95. Other bibliographic references will be given during lessons and put on the e-learning platform. Examination Methods

Written examination. Each student has to submit, at least one week after the exam, a written essay (max. 3 folders without the text of the article) that contains a brief analysis of a journalistic text agreed with the teacher.

------------------------
Written test so organized: three open questions on the three aspects discussed during the course (Pavese poet, narrator and collaborator of Casa Einaudi). At least one of the questions includes analysis and commentary on Pavesian texts. The duration of the test will be an hour and a half.

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE
