Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this module, students should be able to describe and discuss the core aspects of German grammar and its characteristics in a comparative perspective
Program
The aim of this course is to provide students with a formal description of well-known topics in German grammar: several aspects of grammar will be taken into account so as to arrive at a definition of both main clause (Verb Second phenomena/wh-movement) and embedded clause phenomena. In particular, concepts such as constituents/categories and phrase structure in the generative framework will be dealt with both from a "classic" (Governament & Binding Theory) and a present-day perspective (the so-called 'Minimalist model').
