Learning outcomes
This course aims to give a general overview in the cancer setting: from the traslational researche to the clinical one.
Then students will be guided through the management of the cancer patient: from the natural pathway of cancer and the related patients’ needs in particular focusing onto:
• Diagnosis, staging and therapy: the outpatient and the role of the Day Service
• The role of the ward during the initial staging of the illness and active therapy
• The follow-up
• The last stage of the disease: role of the ward and of the local structures (GPs, Home help, Hospice)
In the final part of the course there will be the analysis on the EBM: the importance of guidelines and clinical trials
Examples of various guidelines (ESMO and AIOM) and the different phases of clinical trials; example of a randomized phase III clinical trial. importance will be devoted to the various Emergencies in oncology and palliative cares and to
Targeted therapies.
