The teaching purpose is to discuss the clinical settings tipically observed in the context of emergency surgery. Main syndromes in emergency surgery setting will be considered and analyzed with a surgical and nursing approach. Diseases observed in emergency surgery will be reported considering the symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, indications to surgical treatment and type of surgery.

The teaching aims to study physiopathological aspects, clinical and nursing aspects in emergency situation, selected based on their epidemiological and exemplarity importance in different situations (territory, hospital, home); it focuses on risks’ individuation, on intervention’s complexity and compliance and on patient’s urgent and complex nursing need identifying the priorities.

The student wil be able to recognize critical signs in patients recovered in different wards, to control and describe patient's clinical evolution supporting vital functions and prevent any complications, to assume and care patient and his family during permanence in Intensive Care Unit.

The aim of the course is to provide useful tools and knowledge to evaluate and effectively deal with emergency situations both in the intro and in the extra hospital, recognizing the potential sources of risk that affect people's perception and reaction, identifying the best interventions corrective actions to act with awareness, protecting oneself and others.

Principles and methods of the emergency system of the Operations Center 118 and of the Departments of Emergency / Urgency (frontal lesson) Primary (primary survey) and secondary assessment (secondary survey) of the patient in emergency, with particular attention to the management of the airways, immobilization and transport to the most suitable structure (frontal lesson with connected laboratory of first aid techniques) Triage: principles, application criteria and assignment of appropriate color codes, to define the priorities in emergency according to the Drg n.1888 of 2015. Triage to the person with cognitive impairment of various degrees (lectures with use of a program for the assignment correct color codes in the proposed clinical cases) Evaluation of the patient in periarrest and in cardiac arrest, through the ABCDE / ABC method (lecture and case study) Emotional reactions of patients and principles of relationship / communication with the patient (frontal lesson) The wounds and tampering maneuvers of external hemorrhage and wound dressing (frontal lesson) First intervention situations for the burned patient, drowned, insects point, syncopated patient or with seizure in progress, patient with exposed limb fracture (frontal lesson)

The exam consists of a written test with closed questions, with multiple choice answers
