Workshop 1
EXERCISE THE READING OF THE PRESCRIPTION AND THE CALCULATION SKILL TO GUARANTEE THE SAFE PHARMACOLOGICAL ADMINISTRATION.
Through the proposed exercises the student practices some of the phases that foresee the safety of the application of the diagnostic-therapeutic prescriptions by performing:
- The controls necessary to read the prescription (10 G) and prepare the drug
- Calculations to ensure the right dosage of a correct dose during drug preparation
- Calculations to determine the flow rate (ml / h and gtt / min) and the duration of the infusion
Workshop 2
SAFETY VENIPUNCTURE
At the end of the workshop, the student was practiced, on a simulator, in the procedure of venous needle sampling, proving to be able to:
- recognize and prepare the venipuncture material
- perform venipuncture: by applying the tourniquet (respecting ways and times of permanence), performing the antisepsis of the skin and managing the order and the method of filling the tubes
- perform a safe sampling: using the barrier systems, realizing the priority and safe disposal of the needle
Workshop 3
APPLY THE 10G SECURE ADMINISTRATION STANDARDS: THE PHARMACOUS INSPECTION AND THE EXECUTION OF THE SC AND IM INJECTION.
At the end of the laboratory the student practiced the preparation and administration of a drug intramuscularly and subcutaneously, proving to be able to:
-aspirate a drug from an ampoule: with aseptic maneuver and verifying that you have aspirated the "right" dose
-perform intramuscular injection: applying the 10 G and safety standards, recognizing and preparing the material, identifying the correct injection point in the ventrogluteal site (Hochstaetter technique), using the Z track technique, injecting the drug (needle angle and speed of administration), organizing the environment in order to achieve the priority and safe disposal of the needle
-perform the subcutaneous injection: applying the 10 G and the safety rules, recognizing and preparing the material, identifying the correct injection point (abdominal site), injecting the drug (plica, needle angle, speed of administration), organizing the environment in order to achieve the priority and safe disposal of the needle
Workshop 4
APPLY THE SAFE ADMINISTRATION STANDARDS 10 G: IN THE INFUSIONAL THERAPY AND IN THE POSITIONING OF THE VENOUS PERIPHERAL ACCESS.
At the end of the laboratory, the student practiced the preparation and administration of infusion therapy, proving to be able to:
- prepare the drug to be infused: applying the 10G, ensuring the principles of asepsis and safety rules, recognizing and preparing the material, providing for the filling of the infusion set
- positioning a peripheral venous catheter: recognizing the material for the placement of the CVP, using the barrier systems and performing the skin antisepsis correctly, by positioning the agocannula, organizing the environment in order to achieve the priority and safe disposal of the skin needle, connecting the infusion line in an aseptic way, performing the washing of the CVP.
Program
The workshop session foresees that the student goes through the following phases:
- in a group of about 10 students, we proceed to watch a film about the skill that the student will have to acquire; later, through the tutor's guide, the operative procedure of the practical ability is rebuilt.
- contemporaneously the student becomes familiar with the material, which is made available; at this moment the student can begin to view it, touch it and understand how it is done and its usefulness.
- the students are divided into pairs, and in turn perform the procedure of the skill provided by the laboratory in a guided way, with the support of the tutor. While one student exercises the ability, the other supervises and suggests possible improvement strategies. The tutor supervises the couples and provides individual feedabacks to the student, keeping the shared objectives at the beginning of the day as a criterion.
- at the end of the workshop a plenary debriefing is scheduled (group of 10 students), with guided reflection by the tutor on the laboratory experience.

Examination Methods
In the workshop "EXERCISE THE READING OF THE CALCULATION PRESCRIPTION ANDABILITY TO GUARANTEE THE SAFE PHARMACOLOGICAL ADMINISTRATION" a certification is provided following the passing of a written test on the calculation abilities.
In the other laboratories the certification is not foreseen.

Carissime Studentesse,
Carissimi Studenti,
Prof. Paolo F Fabene
