Learning outcomes
Primary objective of the course is to teach the students the clinical indications, techniques and materials of extra-corporeal life support, be it in the intra-operative or in intensive care setting, including extra-corporeal life support (ECLS) and renal replacement therapy. In particular, apsects relative to techniques and materials employed in pediatric and adult patients will be discussed. In addition, research and development of innovative techniques will be presented.
Program
The program focuses on all techniques of extra-corporeal circulation and life support, including ECMO/ECLS, temporary and permanent respiratory and circulatory support, in children and adults. Specific topics will include organ protection, including myocardial, cerebral and splanchnic. In addition, anesthesia and intensive care methods during extra-corporeal circulation/life support will be examined. Finally, renal replacement therapy, including ultrafiltration, hemofiltration and hemodyalisis will also be discussed.
