Learning outcomes
Given the current uncertainty about the immediate future, the workshop has been reorganized into an online activity focused around free technologies [*] and open data for archeology and, more in general, for cultural and landscape heritage.
The aim is to familiarize the participants, through theoretical and practical lessons, with some of the most popular application and most authoritative databases freely available at no cost. Students will be immediately able to practice from home with useful tools for study, research and work in the fields of archaeological, cultural and landscape heritage.

[This workshop provides an introduction to the methodologies and technologies for the survey, documentation, analysis and interpretation of archaeological contexts.
At the end of this course the participants will have to prove that they have acquired the theoretical and technical skills necessary for the data collection procedures, analysis and reading of the results during the field and laboratory investigations. They will also be asked to show their ability to find their way in the different phases of the research, both from a technical / practical point of view and from the perpective of the understanding and interpretation of archaeological contexts.]
Program
Lessons will be held in the archeology laboratory with the following schedule:
Monday: 11.50-13.30;
Thursday: 11.50-13.30.
Starting from Tursday 16th April until Thursday 14th May 2020.
Frontal and practical lectures:
• topographical and territorial research: methodologies, tools, software and cartographic databases for remote sensing, survey and landscape interpretation;
• archaeological excavation: methodologies, software and technologies for graphic and photographic survey, documentation, data processing in surveys and in stratigraphic excavations;
• analysis of artifacts: case studies and practice of archaeometric technologies.
Laboratory activities:
• learning and use of some of the main remote sensing technologies, graphic, photographic and data processing software and tools:
* GPS, PDAs and other technologies for acquisition of georeferenced data;
* cameras and software for acquisition and processing of photographs and drawings;
* GIS and other application programs for data processing.
• development of a research project on an archaeological context.

Examination Methods
The final exam focuses on the entire program of the course and aims to ascertain the understanding of the topics, the familiarity with the tools and the ability to analyze and interpret an excavation sector or a topographical-territorial survey.
The atttendace to 70% of the lectures is required to take the exam. Non-attending students must agree in advance with the professor how to take the exam, which in this case includes a a specific bibliography to integrate the slides and materials used during the lessons and the knowledge of some of the tools used during the lab activities.
