Learning outcomes
The main objective of this course is to improve students understanding of the film language. At the end of the course students will be expected to have acquired a capacity to analyse the form and content of particular film texts and to demonstrate an understanding of traditions of filmmaking in different national and international contexts. Specifically, the course aims to provide the students with the main historiographic, theoretical and methodological tools related to the analysis of film, and further to present the application of specific models for the description and interpretation of the film.
Program
Italian cinema of the sixties. The course will focus on the analysis of auteur and genre cinema of the sixties in Italy, with particular attention to the production of authors such as Luchino Visconti, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Federico Fellini and Marco Ferreri. Some masterpieces of the decade will be analyzed in the classroom, such as La dolce vita, Dillinger è morto, Il gattopardo, Io conoscevo bene, etc.

Examination Methods
The exam will be written and includes THREE open questions. One of these questions will be reserved for the analysis of a filmic text chosen by the student, who will have to demonstrate that he or she has learned the methodology taught in class.
