Learning outcomes

A) THEORY Knowledge and understanding - Knowledge and understanding of the listening and analysis methodologies of individual needs - Knowledge and understanding of the bio-psycho-social roots of the individual needs - Knowledge and understanding of the different types of social intervention Ability to apply knowledge and understanding - Ability to carry out needs assessment - Ability to conduct social work interviews - Ability to write a social work report - Ability to set clear and realistic targets for social work interventions SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES The course is centered on providing students with the knowledge necessary to professionally project and conduct social work interventions. Particular attention will be given to the methodological features of the support process and the needs assessment as well as the targets setting aspects will be explored more in detail. B) PROFESSIONAL ETHICS Knowledge and understanding - Knowledge and understanding of main principles and foundations of the social work practice Applying Knowledge and understanding - Recognizing, respecting and promoting the main objectives of professional social work. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES The course aims to introduce the student to the core knowledge, skills, ethics and values underpinning social work, both as a discipline and as a profession. The course aims to analyse the historical development of social work and illustrate its philosophical foundations. The course also guides the student as to the context of the values and theories that constitute the basis upon which the scientific and methodological structure of social work is based. By the end of the course, the student should be able to demonstrate knowledge of the nature, aims, theories, and values of social work. The student will also be able to place social work in its historical context and the wider welfare system.

MM: TEORIA

The course is divided into two parts. A first theoretical part, and a second part focusing on "exercises" in which it will be possible to apply what has been learned during the course. In the theoretical part the teaching will be focusing on the following topics: • The social service help relationship: definition and main components • The methodological approach of the social service: definition and theoretical elements • The main intervention tools of social service: interview, home visit, case record and documentation. • The emotional component of the social worker in the decision-making process and case management . As far as the "exercises" are concerned, the contents provided in the first part of the course will be used during classroom case studies. Professional tools, provided by the teacher, will be also applied to fictional cases. . The teaching method will use lectures, working groups and case discussion with the use of audio-visual materials. Social Work aims, purposes, functions: the importance of contexts, organizations, and professional mandate. 5. Features of a registered profession (I): professional community, public service, ligitimization. 6. Features of a registered profession (II):professional Ethics, lifelong education. 7. Features of a registered profession (III): the NEW Code of Ethics. 8. Examination Methods

MM: TEORIA
------------------------
The final test will consist of a written test. The test will cover the contents of the program and will be composed of five open-ended questions aimed at ascertaining the knowledge of the topics taught during the course. Each question will be awarded maximum 6 points. Once both courses, the present and the "Principles and Foundations" one, have been passed, the student will get a single mark resulting from the average of the marks obtained in the two modules. Intermediate tests are not foreseen

The written part consists of 18 closed-questions (about Social Work history and fundaments, values and principles) and 2 open questions in which students are required to discuss critical issues of the profession. During the oral test students will present one chapter of the Handbook of Social Work Ethics and Values, with their own reflexive positioning on the topic. ------------------------ MM: Esercitazione ------------------------ Final test is divided in two parts, written and oral. The written part consists of 18 closed-questions (about Social Work history and fundaments, values and principles) and 2 open questions in which students are required to discuss critical issues of the profession.
