Learning outcomes

The course aims to consolidate the knowledge of aspects of the tradition of linguistic research in the Hispanic context. At the end of the course students: – should know the basics of theoretical models to account for linguistic phenomena related to Spanish in a synchronic or diachronic perspective; – will apply these models to written and oral texts in Spanish, proving to be able to organize the aspects studied in a systematic manner.

1. Introduction to the concepts of: linguistic norm, linguistic variation, polycentric Spanish norm, linguistic contact, pidgin, creole language.
2. Spanish language and creolization phenomena.
3. Emerging varieties of Spanish: the case of US Spanish.

Teaching modality
The course will be held in telematic mode on the Zoom platform, with the help of teaching materials , as well as through written texts to be analyzed during the class made available in the Moodle teaching platform.

Examination Methods

The exam, in the form of a written test, aims to test the breadth and depth of knowledge gained on the topics in the programme, as well as the property of language, terminological precision and the ability to connect in a systemic form the knowledge acquired. The exam will focus on the program carried out during the lessons, the teaching materials and the bibliography of the course. Both questions and answers will be formulated in Spanish. The examination methods are the same for non-attending students.
ATTENDING STUDENTS WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO CARRY OUT A TEST IN ITINERE ON THE FIRST PART OF THE COURSE (Prof.ssa Binacchi). More details will be published on the course page in Moodle.
