Academic calendar

Learning outcomes
History of Philosophy in the Renaissance The course aims to provide students with a knowledge of the main philosophical, political and artistic texts of the Renaissance (15th-16th century), seen in the wider context of Western philosophical tradition. At the end of the course, students shall be able to demonstrate their ability to contextualize from both a historical and critical viewpoint the authors and the topics discussed during the course. They will also develop their capacity to communicate philosophical contents to specialists and non-specialists alike, and their capacity to continue their studies at a MA level.
Program
The course takes into account some aspects of the thinking of Nicholas Cusano, considered by one of the most important philosophers of the European Renaissance. In particular, the themes of God's knowledge and beauty will be dealt with. The topics will be explained, also referring to the historical-philosophical context of the Italian and German Renaissance.
Cusano's works that will be explained during the lessons are:
"Dialogo di un gentile ed un cristiano su Dio nascosto", in Opere Filosfiche, UTET (or any other edition);
"La visione di Dio", in Opere Filosofiche, UTET (or any other edition);
"La dotta ignoranza", in Opere Filosofiche, UTET (or any other edition).
For the historical-philosophical part, the following text will be referred to:

Examination Methods
The exam will be oral.
To pass the exam, students will need to prove that they are:
- understanding the issues addressed in the texts
- being able to expose topics with appropriate language
- knowing how to link topics to each other
