Analysis of viticultural terroirs (2021/2022)
The teaching is organized as follows:
Learning outcomes
The student will have to
- know the different approaches to the notion of terroir as defined in viticulture, and the possibilities to analyze and classify the elements that compose it, such as the climate, the soil, the grape variety.
- Know the soil characteristics able to influence the grapevine metabolism and relate them to the typicality aspects.
- know the most recent molecular tools for genetic analysis and the high throughput genotyping in grapevine; apply, evaluate and communicate results of genetic analysis for the variety and clone identification, and for describing the genetic relationships among varieties, in the frame of the identity of a cultivation area.
At the end of the course, participants will have acquired the ability to understand the link between the quality of grape production and the growing environment and to evaluate the characteristics and the typicality of a cultivation site.
