The academic calendar shows the deadlines and scheduled events that are relevant to students, teaching and technical-administrative staff of the University. Program
The introductory part of the course will analyze general problems, useful for introducing students to the study of the subject (Concept of "decorative arts", "arts applied to industry" and "design"; sources for the study of decorative arts and their techniques; introduction to the history of exhibitions and museums of decorative arts).
The second part of the course will focus attention on Italian and international ceramic production, using the ceramic medium as an expedient to retrace the evolution of taste and styles from the mid-nineteenth century to the end of the following century. The main lines of development in the history of the ceramic arts will be examined and the protagonists, manufacturers and artists who played a fundamental role in the development of ceramic art will be highlighted. The topics will be structured as follows:
- Techniques and classification of ceramic works (terracotta, majolica, stoneware, earthenware, porcelain)
- Eclecticism and Historicism
- International Modernism
- Art Deco
- Futurism
- “Novecento” style and Rationalism
Bibliography
Examination Methods
The exam consists of an oral interview and provides an assessment of thirty. In addition to the knowledge of the topics covered, the ability to present themselves, the use of appropriate terminology, the ability to contextualize historical events and to critically rework the texts proposed in the bibliography and the problems discussed during any external visits will influence the final evaluation.
The program and examination methods will not have any differences between attending and non-attending students.
