Learning objectives

The training objectives of the lesson are: acquisition of knowledge of the fundamental biological mechanisms that regulate the functioning of the immune system and of the pathological mechanisms of the immune system in cancer. Knowledge of the general principles of vaccinia therapy and immunosuppression. Immunotherapy approaches

Prerequisites and basic notions

Preliminary knowledge of the immune system and oncological processes

Program

The lesson will delve into the topic of immunometabolism and the main nutrients and metabolites that play a crucial role in regulating lymphocyte function and modifying the tumor immune macroenvironment. The importance of some essential amino acids (including arginine, tryptophan) and the enzymes that modify their availability for the cytotoxic activity of lymphocytes and for maintaining their state of activation will be illustrated. Finally, a part of the lesson will be dedicated to disseminating the main strategies of immune therapies aimed at manipulating the tumor microenvironment to promote the entry and activation of T lymphocytes into the tumor.
