Learning objectives

To acquire knowledge and understanding on the main laws, rules and regulations regarding health and safety, prevention and health promotion in workplaces, also with reference to groups or conditions of vulnerability (e.g., susceptible workers, females, migrants, aging workers).
To acquire, through field examples, knowledge and understanding about general principles of occupational health, risk assessment, health surveillance, fitness for work, health education, with reference to different risk factors (chemicals, physical agents, biohazards, ergonomics, organization and psychosocial factors, injuries).
Attention will be dedicated to let the student acquire knowledge and understanding about the roles of the different professionals and institutions committed to prevention, both in the individual workplace and in the national health system, as well as insurance and compensation aspects as related to work-related diseases and injuries.

The course aims at gaining awareness and skill to apply knowledge and understanding within the practical, professional legal activities, with special reference to methodological ability of analysing a specific issue about health and safety in workplaces and to elaborate appropriate solutions for the user.

TEACHING METHODS
The course will be conducted by means of lectures, with constant pursue of students’ involvement in concept elaboration, and to acquire lexicon and methodology, with ample time for discussion and interaction. Lectures will include practical examples from the field, as well as discussion arising from case studies.
According to the guidelines of University of Verona, the lessons will be in presence.

Learning assessment procedures

The examination will be ORAL for all students – both attending and non-attending. The final evaluation will be expressed in thirtieths.

Evaluation criteria

Ability to present clearly and logically. Lexical properties suitable for Occupational Medicine. Critical reasoning skills. Practical application of reasoning.

Criteria for the composition of the final grade
