Learning objectives
At the end of the course, the student will need to demonstrate to have acquired the main interdisciplinary foundations of Romance Philology (historical linguistics, textual criticism and medieval Romance literature).
Prerequisites and basic notions
No specific prerequisites are required.
Program
The course will be divided into three parts:
(1) introduction to text criticism, with a focus on the methods of edition of medieval texts;
(2) introduction to Romance linguistics: reading of texts illustrating the evolution from Vulgar Latin to the Romance languages;
(3) reading, analysis and commentary on early documents and literary texts of the Romance languages.

Didactic methods
Attending students: lectures (36 hours), open to student participation.
Non-attending students: alternative programme to be agreed with the lecturer at the beginning of the semester.
For all attending and non-attending students: materials and any updates will be indicated in good time on the e-learning platform. There is a reception desk throughout the academic year, at the times indicated on the online teaching pages.
Learning assessment procedures
Oral.
In the case of medical emergencies, the modalities of the examination will be as laid down by the University.
Evaluation criteria
The following will be evaluated: knowledge of the various parts of the course, reading of the text of your choice, ability to express yourself and the property of language. The score will be expressed in thirtieths. Erasmus students and non-attending students are kindly requested to get in touch with the teacher at the beginning of the lessons, to agree on the program to take to the exam.
