MED/50 - APPLIED MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY AND METHODOLOGY

Learning objectives
In the first period the student will improve the abilities in conventional x-rays, demonstrating the knowledge and autonomy also in mammography and in dental X-ray exam. The student has also to develop skills in professional communication and to start to practice Computed Tomography. In the second and third part of the internship the student has to start practicing Magnetic Resonance, applying the knowledge of the most used sequences studied during the year. In Radiation Therapy the student will learn the behavior of the radiographer during each fase of radiation therapy treatment and how to use the most common set up devices. Furthermore, the student has to learn organizational, ethical and deontological issues related to the profession and to the relation with the patient, and has always to ensure radiation safety for patients and other workers.
Prerequisites and basic notions
The student must know the normal anatomy of the skeletal, thoracic, gastrointestinal, urogenital, cardiovascular and nervous systems. Must know the study techniques of Computed Tomography and Radiotherapy
Program
The students of the second year of the course in the completion of the professional internship will attend the Diagnostic Imaging and Radiotherapy Departments of the affiliated locations where they will be joined by internship guides to consolidate the technical-practical skills for carrying out investigations of Conventional Radiology and acquire technical-practical skills for carrying out Computed Tomography investigations and carrying out Radiotherapy treatments

Learning assessment procedures
Discussion of conventional and contrast radiology procedures with analysis of a radiogram - Radioprotection and CT Protocols with analysis of CT images - Safety and RM Protocols with analysis of MR images
Evaluation criteria
The student must demonstrate that he is able to autonomously conduct a Computed Tomography, Magnetic Resonance and Radiotherapy procedure and to evaluate its qualitative adequacy
Criteria for the composition of the final grade
The vote is expressed in thirtieths
