Academic calendar
The academic calendar shows the deadlines and scheduled events that are relevant to students, teaching and technical-administrative staff of the University. Public holidays and University closures are also indicated. The academic year normally begins on 1 October each year and ends on 30 September of the following year.

Learning objectives
The course aims to provide a quantitative approach for dealing with investment and consumption problems under uncertainty. Fundamental topics presented in the course are also related to the efficient structure of financial markets and equilibrium theory.
Students may find useful to follow this course after those of Mathematical Finance, Financial Risk management and, Portfolio Management and Equity markets.
Prerequisites and basic notions
Students are advised to take this course after Finanza Matematica, Financial Risk Management and Derivati
Program
First part:
- introduction to stochastic control through some simple examples
- discrete time stochastic control, with examples
- continuous time stochastic control, with examples
- dynamic programming and the HJB equation
- stochastic control with jump processes
Second part:
- introduction to machine learning: reinforcement learning, supervised learning, deep learning, artificial neural networks
- deep hedging
- machine learning for optimal stopping
- time permitting: other applications of reinforcement learning in finance.
The second part of the course will consist of the theoretical introduction of the problems in question and the presentation of the code. There will also be some "live coding" sessions, in which students will have the opportunity to interact with the teacher in developing the code.
Didactic methods
The course includes 54 hours of lectures (equivalent to 9 training credits).
Learning assessment procedures
Written exam and delivery of a project in which the student will have to write a program for the numerical solution of an optimal control problem
Evaluation criteria
Regarding the written exam, the student must demonstrate a critical and in-depth knowledge of the topics covered in the course, both in terms of the theoretical and implementation aspects. The answers must be precise and relevant to the questions.
The numerical program must run without errors and provide the expected results. It must also follow as much as possible the best practices that we will discuss in the course and, in particular, be well documented.
Criteria for the composition of the final grade
The written exam constitutes 75% of the final score, the program the remaining 25%.

CONTAMINATION LAB
The Contamination Lab Verona (CLab Verona) is an experiential course with modules on innovation and enterprise culture that offers the opportunity to work in teams with students from all areas to solve challenges set by companies and organisations.
Upon completion of a CLab, students will be entitled to receive 6 CFU (D- or F-type credits).

PLEASE NOTE: In order to be admitted to any teaching activities, including those of your choice, you must be enrolled in the academic year in which the activities in question are offered. Students who are about to graduate in the December and April sessions are therefore advised NOT to undertake extracurricular activities in the new academic year in which they are not enrolled, as these graduation sessions are valid for students enrolled in the previous academic year. Therefore, students who undertake an activity in an academic year in which they are not enrolled will not be granted CFU credits.
