Learning objectives

On successful completion of this course, students should be able to:
- recognize translation relevant text typologies;
- analyse text types from the point of view of translation;
- demonstrate knowledge about text specific translation problems;
- solve translation problems occurring in the German-Italian and Italian-German translations of texts related to tourism and commerce;
- produce target texts which are coherent with the text function and audience, on the basis of small translation assignment (German-Italian).

Prerequisites and basic notions

- Knowledge and skills related to German linguistics acquired in previous years of university education and German language skills on C1 level.
- Erasmus students may ask their questions at any time directly to the lecturers.

Classes with theoretical content and practical exercises.

Learning assessment procedures

All students ("frequentanti" and "non frequentanti") will give a written final exam. The written exam, which consists of open questions and analyses of linguistic data/texts, assesses:
- knowledge of the basic features of the theoretical concepts discussed in class;
- competence in the application of the concepts in professional settings;
- command of the most important analog and digital tools (most of all databases and their research and management tools, for example Sketch engine, Variantenwörterbuch, OWID, AADG).

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE

Evaluation criteria

Extent of the demonstrated skills; clarity and (terminological) accuracy of the answers.

Criteria for the composition of the final grade

The final grade of the exam will be the average of the grade of the written exam and the grade obtained in the CLA C2 test (or of another recognized C2 language certificate).
