Learning objectives

The course aims to provide the future doctor with the fundamental notions to understand, deal with and try to interact with the opioid or cocaine addict and possibly take him into care or send him to the suitable structures for this pathology. After a brief excursus on history and epidemiology, the new methods of use and the types of substance addicts are addressed. Then we go into detail on the clinic of the abuse, on the medical complications and on the possible therapy and rehabilitation. The problem of depression and other psychiatric pathologies very often associated with any type of addiction will also be addressed. The activity, problems, results and job opportunities offered by the Public Services for drug addiction, the SerT and the prison-drug addiction relationship will then be illustrated.

Program

The history, epidemiology, clinical and medical complications of heroin and cocaine use and addiction will be discussed, as well as the new ways of taking these substances. The therapy and rehabilitation of addicts will also be illustrated. Finally, emphasis will be placed on the territorial structures for the treatment of those addicted to these substances.
