Learning objectives

In the first part of the internship the student has to improve the ability in CT and MRI. In the second part the student will practice Radiation Therapy, studied in the second year. In the third part of the training the student is in Nuclear Medicine and has to learn the basic principles of this discipline and how to prepare and check the radiopharmaceutical. Moreover, the student has to learn the most common techniques used in scintigraphy (SPET) and in PET, how to eliminate radioactive waste and how to decontaminate the environment. Furthermore, the student has to learn organizational, ethical and deontological issues related to the profession and to the relation with the patient, and has always to ensure radiation safety for patients and other workers.

Prerequisites and basic notions

The student must know the normal anatomy of the skeletal, thoracic, gastrointestinal, urogenital, cardiovascular and nervous systems. Must know the study techniques of Interventional Radiology, Computed Tomography, Radiotherapy, Nuclear Medicine

Program

The students of the third year of the course in the completion of the professional internship will attend the Diagnostic Imaging and Radiotherapy Departments of the affiliated locations where they will be joined by internship guides to consolidate the technical-practical skills for carrying out investigations of Conventional Radiology, Computed Tomography, Magnetic Resonance and Radiotherapy treatments. They will also acquire technical-practical skills for carrying out investigations of Interventional Radiology, Breast and Nuclear Medicine

Didactic methods

Supporting the internship guide in carrying out his work activity. Supplementary teaching activities such as: phantom simulations discussion of clinical cases preparation and presentation of project work on clinical cases in which the student has witnessed or participated in the execution during the internship experience developed in progress

Learning assessment procedures

Oral exam on procedures of: - Conventional radiology - Radioprotection and CT protocols with analysis of CT images - Safety and MRI protocols with analysis of MR images - Main investigations of Nuclear Medicine with interpretation of iconography and notes on Radioprotection

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE

Evaluation criteria

The student must demonstrate that they are able to independently conduct a Computed Tomography, Magnetic Resonance, Nuclear Medicine and conventional Radiology procedure and a Radiotherapy treatment and evaluate their qualitative adequacy. They must also have participated in 90% of the elective activities proposed by the Course for their course year

Criteria for the composition of the final grade

Vote expressed in thirtieths. an additional point will also be attributed to the final grade for 100% participation in the elective activities proposed by the Course for your course year
