Knowledge of the basics of Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology

Prerequisites and basic notions

Knowledge of basic biology and cytology.

Program

Introduction to medical microbiology, Commensal and pathogenic microbial flora in humans. General information on laboratory diagnostics, Microscopy and in vitro cultures, Molecular and serological diagnostics in Microbiology. General information on the immune response, Innate and acquired responses, Vaccines. Sterilization, disinfection and antisepsis. Bacteriology structure, metabolism, replication and genetics of bacteria. Mechanisms of the pathogenesis of bacterial diseases. Antibacterial drugs, mechanisms of resistance to antibacterial drugs. The main pathogenic bacteria for humans: Staphylococci, Streptococci, Enterococci, Bacillus anthracis, Listeria monocytogenes, Corynebacteria, Mycobacteria, Neisserie, Hemophiles, Enterobacteria, Vibrio, Campylobacter, Helicobacter, Pseudomonas, Acinetobacter, Bartonelle, Bordetelle, Brucelle, Legionella, Clostridia, Actinomycetes, Spirochetes, Mycoplasmas, Rickettsiae, Orientia, Ehrlichie, Coxiella, Chlamydia and other minor bacteria.
Virology
Classification, structure and replication of viruses, Viral pathogenesis, human pathogenic viruses, Diagnosis of viral infection, Antiviral drugs and infection control. Poxvirus, Adenovirus, Papovavirus, Herpesvirus, Parvovirus, Picornavirus, Coronavirus and Norovirus, Paramyxovirus, Orthomyxovirus, Rhabdovirus, Filovirus, Reovirus, Togavirus, Flavivirus, Bunyavirus and Arenavirus, Retrovirus, Hepatitis virus.
Fungi
Fungi Classification, structure and replication of fungi, Pathogenesis of fungal diseases, Human pathogenic fungi, mycotoxins and mycotoxicosis. Fungal Infection Diagnosis, Antifungal Drugs. Superficial, cutaneous and subcutaneous mycoses, Systemic mycoses caused by dimorphic fungi, Opportunistic mycoses.
Parasitology
Classification, structure and replication of parasites, Pathogenesis of parasitic diseases, Protozoa and helminths pathogenic for humans, Diagnosis of parasitic infection, Antiprotozoan and anthelmintic drugs.
