Learning objectives
BONE SPECIALIST AND BONE FRAGILITY
A recent survey by the International Osteoporosis Foundation on the management of osteoporosis estimates that in Italy there are approximately 4 and a half million patients affected by osteoporosis: 80% are women and among these 70% do not follow a appropriate treatment. This data makes specialist updating projects indispensable so that doctors are aware of the need to manage this problem which is transversal to many specialties. The main objective of these courses is to facilitate the organization and management of a clinic dedicated to Osteoporosis, but also that of knowing how to manage differential diagnostics and other main metabolic diseases of the skeleton. In other words the objective is to train a Bone Specialist.
OSTEOIMMUNOLOGY:
The aim of these courses is to provide the most recent theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of osteoimmunology in order to interpret the results of the most recent imaging techniques of general bone health and individual bone lesions (MRI, Ultrasound, DXA, Radiofrequency Echographic Multi Spectrometry, high definition QCT) as well as the use of new bone biomarkers to be used in research, diagnostics and follow-up in order to contribute to the identification of the most rational and targeted choice of pharmacological treatment in the individual patient.
Prerequisites and basic notions
The issues addressed by these seminars and courses are of transversal interest and make them useful to all medical graduates and healthcare and research professionals at various levels
Program
Please note that the final programs of the courses with the titles of the individual reports and speakers will be available only a few months before the courses themselves.
BONE SPECIALIST:
The course aims to update participants on the 6 recommendations identified by the recent Guidelines on Fragility Fractures of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità which are: 1) recognition of the importance of identifying fragility fractures; 2) identification of the most important fracture risk factors; 3) use of computerized mathematical algorithms for the accurate assessment of fracture risk; 4) choice of appropriate treatment especially in patients at high risk of fracture 5) importance of adherence to treatment; 6) opportunity to activate assistance services for fractured patients in Italy.
OSTEOIMMUNOLOGY
The courses will offer in-depth studies regarding the increasingly refined imaging techniques that integrate traditional rheumatological semiotics. It should be considered that many of these techniques have become part of the diagnostic and classification criteria of some rheumatological diseases and open new pathogenetic and therapeutic horizons. Added to all this is today the availability in the laboratory of new bio-markers and modulators of bone turnover whose role in the diagnostics and follow-up of these patients is acquiring an increasingly relevant role and space
Bibliography
Didactic methods
Alongside classic frontal reports, there will be some interactive ones dedicated to the discussion of exemplary clinical cases and the practical demonstration of specific and practical management paths (computerized medical records, fracture risk assessment algorithms, new diagnostic procedures, telemedicine, PDTA, etc. ).
