Learning objectives
On successful completion of this module, students will be able to autonomously describe and discuss main aspects of the German linguistic system and its features in a comparative perspective.
Prerequisites and basic notions
- Knowledge and skills related to German linguistics acquired in previous years of university study and German language skills which are good enough for understanding lessons taught in German.
Program
This course aims to provide students with an introduction to different subfields of German linguistics, in particular syntax, semantics, pragmatics, and language acquisition. Special attention will be devoted to the formal approach to syntax.
Bibliography
Didactic methods
Classes with theoretical content and practical exercises. Students are invited to reach out during office hours of the lecturers.
Learning assessment procedures
Oral exam (the contents are the same for both "frequentanti" and "non frequentanti") on the theoretical topics of the five branches of German linguistics dealt with during the classes and exercises along the lines of Meibauer et al.'s textbook.
Evaluation criteria
Extent of the acquired skills; clarity and (terminological) accuracy of the answers.
Criteria for the composition of the final grade
Overall evaluation of knowledge of the different domains, that have been dealt with
