Learning objectives
Provide basic knowledge regarding geriatrics and the methodology of geriatric physical therapy as well as oncology and the methodology of lymphological and oncological physical therapy. MODULE: GERIATRY Acquire knowledge regarding disabling diseases of the elderly regarding their epidemiology, specificity and clinical presentation. To know the concept of "geriatric multidimensional evaluation"". MODULE: METHODOLOGY OF GERIATRIC PHYSIOTHERAPY Know the physical activity programs for the prevention of sarcopenia. Know the possibility of functional recovery in the elderly in relation to comorbidity and frailty. Provide tools for observation, functional and cognitive assessment of the elderly patient affected by organ and system pathologies, to formulate a physiotherapy program based on residual resources and preventive against hypokinetic syndrome. Acquire the elements that characterize the specificity of physiotherapy treatment in the elderly patient affected by neurological, orthopedic and cardio-respiratory pathology. Recognize the role of the physiotherapist in the geriatric team, formulate a physiotherapy program consistent with the rehabilitation project. MODULE: ONCOLOGY AND PALLIATIVE CARE Acquire the knowledge to define criticality and rehabilitation needs of patients with malignant neoplasms undergoing radical and palliative treatments. Epidemiology and clinical presentation of the most common oncologic diseases. Principles of therapy and related side effects; rehabilitation needs of cancer patients. MODULE: METHODOLOGY OF LYMPHOLOGICAL AND ONCOLOGIC PHYSIOTHERAPY Understand the pathway of the patient affected by cancer disease and the importance of physiotherapy and rehabilitation intervention. Identify the professional figures involved in oncology and understand the importance of multidisciplinarity for effective teamwork. Know the sequelae of rehabilitation interest based on: type of tumor, surgical approach, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, hormone therapy, immunotherapy. Identify the correct rehabilitation approach in patients with thoracic and breast neoplasia and in palliative patients. Know the pathophysiology, guidelines, and rehabilitative treatment of lymphedema in oncology.
