Academic calendar
The academic calendar shows the deadlines and scheduled events that are relevant to students, teaching and technical-administrative staff of the University. Public holidays and University closures are also indicated. The academic year normally begins on 1 October each year and ends on 30 September of the following year.

Learning outcomes
Il corso si pone l`obiettivo di fornire gli strumenti informatici per l`analisi e l`interpretazione dei dati biologici. Particolare importanza verra` data all`informazione che si puo` ricavare dall`analisi delle sequenze nucleotidiche e proteiche. Il corso inoltre mira a fornire agli studenti gli strumenti e i metodi necessari per accedere all`informazione biologica in modo razionale ed efficiente, utilizzando le risorse disponibili in rete.

Le esercitazioni sono parte importante del corso. In linea generale le esercitazioni riguarderanno i metofi d`accesso e interrogazione delle banche dati disponibili in rete, allineamento di sequenze nucleotidiche e proteiche mediante l`uso del programma Blast, studio delle sequenze proteiche mediante l`utilizzo di diversi programmi per la determinazione e la predizione di motivi funzionali

- introduzione alla bioinformatica, banche dati biologiche, srs, entrez, banche dati primarie e specializzate.
- Allineamento di sequenze nucleotidiche e proteiche, blast, fasta, matrici di sostituzione, aliineamento multipli.
- Metodi predittivi per l`analisi del genoma, predizione delle open reading frame.
- Ricerca di pattern e motivi funzionali, reti neurali , hidden Markov models.
- Analisi strutturale delle proteine e banche dati di strutture proteiche
