Learning objectives

The course is intended to provide the student with the knowledge of the basic legal notions characterising the system of social protection of workers and citizens in need.

At the end of the course, the student will be able to identify the relevant sources as well as elaborate on legal issues concerning the main topics and the subject, in both oral and written forms, developing proper reasoning and argumentation, using an appropriate and specific vocabulary, reaching independent judgement on actual cases, adopting a method based on continuous learning and knowledge updating.

Prerequisites and basic notions

The course delves into the discipline of the employment relationship through the analysis of legal and social security relationships and then continues the analysis of the elements of social security rights aimed at citizens which consider in particular the employment dimension. A preliminary knowledge of the main institutions of labor law and trade union law is therefore required.

Program

-The teaching program includes the presentation and discussion of the following topics:
- The concept of social security and the historical evolution of legislation
-The Constitution and sources of Law
-The legal social security relationship
-The legal protection and organization administration of social security
-Protection against accidents at work and professional diseases
-The pension system and supplementary pensions
-Welfare measures to support income.

The program of non-attending students is different and corresponds to the content of the entire textbook.

Erasmus students will have to agree on a specific program with the teacher.

Didactic methods

The teacher will proceed through lectures and laboratories organized remotely on a digital platform for some in-depth analysis consisting of the analysis of cases and texts (judgments, administrative practice).
For students registered with Panopto4Workers, the remote connection will be made at the following address: univr.zoom.us/j/98176063571 . Access will require GIA credentials. Recordings of the lessons will be made available on the Panopto platform.

Learning assessment procedures

- for attending students, a written test on the topics and issues examined in class, with the possibility of integrating the grade through an oral exam in the following session. - for non-attending students, a single oral test on the entire program consisting of the discussion of the topics provided in the recommended text.

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE

Evaluation criteria

Knowledge of the program, Ability to discursively organize knowledge; quality of presentation, competence in the use of specialist vocabulary.

Criteria for the composition of the final grade

For those attending: grade out of thirty resulting from the written exam with possible integration through an oral exam at the student's request. For non-attending students: single oral exam with grade out of thirty.
