Learning objectives

The workshop aims to provide a concrete opportunity to address participatory research approaches and methodologies.
Drawing on our own experiences of field research in India, Brazil and Italy over the past decade, we will delve into the theories, practicalities and issues involved in doing participatory research. By sharing and discussing actual research examples and experiences, we will bring out theories of participatory social research, which value the researcher’s experience and positionality,
and their relations in - and with - the field.
The workshop will involve students’ active participation. Those who intend to participate will be asked to prepare a 3-minute ‘Show & Tell’ presentation to introduce themselves and their PhD project to the group through a photo, an object, a song, or a literary quote they deem representative of their research. They will also be asked to bring something to eat or drink to share with other colleagues during the World Café activity planned for the early afternoon. And a cup.

Didactic methods

The course will be delivered in presence, with at most 25 students.
