Learning objectives

To acquire familiarity with the field of cultural history, a critical competence on its intellectual vocabulary and a first introduction to its worldwide literature; to develop strategies for the interpretation of sources via this mode of enquiry.

Prerequisites and basic notions

Familiarity with historical studies.

Program

The module will be structured in two parts. First, we will analyse the cultural history and theory that redefined historiographical practice in the twentieth century, with in-depth analysis of a series of topics they have allowed us to investigate in a new way. Second, we will look more in depth into one of these topics, i.e. the history of emotions.

Didactic methods

Frontal lessons interspersed with others of a seminar nature, in which the presentation of topics by the students themselves and discussion will be strongly encouraged.

Learning assessment procedures

Evaluation criteria

The exam will be considered passed upon verification of understanding of reference texts. It will be evaluated how the students reflect on the issues addressed and their ability to argue their opinions.
