Learning objectives

The main learning outcome of the course is to provide students with a specialized and comparative knowledge of Spanish literature, of critical methodologies and textual analysis. Acquired competence and knowledge will be applied to interdisciplinary approaches, to the study of critical methodologies concerning textual reading, translation and the critical analysis of texts in Spanish, or to a high-level written production. Students will therefore acquire competences on the use of Spanish, both on the level of contents and on that of critical processes in intertextual and intercultural contexts. The aim is to prepare students for high-level professional outcomes or for further university developments, like PhD courses. Specific learning outcomes are as follows: Knowledge and understanding: at the end of the course students are expected to have acquired advanced knowledge on the history of Spanish literature and culture in its various expressions: forms, genres, and critical perspectives Applying knowledge and understanding: students will be able to apply historical and literary knowledge, as well as acquired theoretical, didactic and methodological instruments to the fields of professional research, teaching of languages and literatures, literary translation, international cooperation and cultural promotion.

Prerequisites and basic notions

The teaching regulations require the following prerequisites: the Foreign Literature - Master 2 exam (2nd year) must be preceded by Foreign Literature - Master 1 (1st year).

Program

Canonical Literature and Minority Literature in the Middle Ages and the Spanish Golden Age.
The course focuses on the literary representation of orthodoxy and heterodoxy, of the canon and dissent, within a textual corpus selected from Spanish works of the late Middle Ages and the Golden Age, particularly in prose.
Teaching materials and an anthology of texts will be made available in the Moodle space of the course.

Didactic methods

The course will be taught in Spanish through classroom teaching, case studies, and e-learning. The course will be available on the university's Moodle e-learning platform, where some mandatory content and optional in-depth materials will be uploaded. This program is also available to non-attending students, who are, however, advised to contact the instructor during office hours. Individual office hours are available throughout the academic year, and are managed by the instructor. These hours are listed on the website and are constantly updated. Students who need to make up missed classes should contact the instructor.

Learning assessment procedures

The exam will be oral in Spanish and consists of an interview designed to verify the depth and breadth of acquired knowledge, analytical and argumentative ability, the ability to systematically establish connections, and language skills. The topics to be assessed cover the entire program.

Evaluation criteria

The depth and breadth of knowledge acquired, analytical and argumentative skills, the ability to systematize knowledge, and linguistic proficiency will be assessed.

Criteria for the composition of the final grade

The grade is expressed in thirtieths. A written paper on the topics proposed by the instructor may be considered a merit mark in the final grade.
