Learning objectives
The course is held in German and aims at analysing and comparing literary texts of various genres, from the XVIIIth to the XXth Century, with the most recent instruments of literary criticism, such as semiotics, intertextuality, intermediality, narratology, reception theory and history, cultural studies and translation studies. At the end of the course students will be able to attain deep knowledge both of the historical context and of the different literary works. They will also have to be able to analyse and understand the texts dealt with during the lessons and to properly express their knowledge in German.

The course is dedicated to the study of German-language literature of the last two decades through the analysis of works by contemporary and already canonised writers, such as Winfrid Seebald, counted by critics as one of the greatest contemporary prose writers, the Nobel Prize winners Herta Müller, Elfriede Jelinek and Peter Handke, the winner of the prestigious Büchner Preis in 2022, Emine Sevgi Özdamar, and finally the multi-award-winning poet Monika Rinck.
